December 6: Parade of Lights: Parade of LIghts through midtown starts at 6pm (from corner of Sudderth/ Mechem to 700 block of Sudderth) is the largest holiday parade in the southwest! See floats of all shapes and sizes, emergency vehicles, horse-mounted entrants, marching bands and more - all lit up - for a one-of-a-kind night parade! December 6: Travel to Holidays Past: 6th—'Travel to Holidays Past': Hubbard Museum of the American West. This event will feature museum staff and volunteers dressed in period costume creating vignettes around artifacts on the main floor of the Museum where visitors can interact with interpreters about holiday traditions in the past. Children may be issued a 'passport'as they enter the Museum and visit each station, and can sit with Santa Claus before leaving. December 9: Christmas at the Lodge: The Lodge at Sierra Blanca - Christmas magic, that wonderful majestical force that permeates the globe this time every year reaches epic proportions at the Lodge. Carols, cookies, sleigh rides and Santa. Events are free and open to the public with Santa arriving by horse-drawn sleigh at 6:15. Refreshments will be served: mulled cider and confections are plenty. The New Desert Harmony singers lead a Christmas sing-a-long and where children are invited to decorate their very own Christmas cookie. Photos will be available with Santa. December 13: Cowboy Santa Parade: Capitan NM, Hwy 380, 12:30pm. The Parade will start on the west end of town, bringing Santa to the library in a horse drawn vehicle. Santa himself hands out books, small gifts and candy to each child upon arrival at the library. This event is the Capitan Library’s way of repaying the community for their support.
